(Summary description)Shanghai, April 18, 2011 -- Dow Automotive Systems today unveiled a series of innovations and future growth plans to enhance local market performance during the Shanghai International Auto Show, reinforcing the company's position as a leading supplier of material solutions to the automotive industry. Dow Automotive Systems' innovation efforts are focused on four core areas: automotive lightweighting, safety, emissions control, and improving vehicle quality and appeal. "We believe these four areas are key points of development for the automotive industry, which has been concluded to meet the needs of consumers and to address the challenges facing the automotive industry. Our development goal is to bring real value to our customers," explained Steven Henderson, president of Dow's Automotive Systems business unit.

A series of innovations presented by Dow Chemical during the auto show include.

-Automotive lightweighting solutions: Two-component polyurethane bonding systems can bond materials with different properties, which can help automobiles use more lightweight materials, such as aluminum and composites. This technology has been commercially available since 2009 in some major European car manufacturers and was launched in China in early 2011. In addition, since 2010, Dow has also introduced its epoxy and polyurethane composites to the Asian market to replace metals and other composites in the design of automotive interiors and exteriors.

-Safety: BETAMATE™ FLEX structural adhesive is the latest development that effectively balances mechanical properties and flexibility to address the thermal deformation that can occur after curing of aluminum and other lightweight metal parts. In addition, Dow introduced BETAWIPE™ Hydro Glass Adhesive System, the world's first one-component, water-activated technology for automotive glass bonding that is free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This technology can effectively improve the working environment for automotive manufacturing workers.

-Improving the quality and appeal of automobiles: AUTOTHANE™ high-performance microporous polyurethane material systems to help automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers address suspension vibration control issues. In addition to its existing product line, Dow has integrated a range of rubber-to-metal adhesive products - including MEGUM™, THIXON™ and ROBOND™ adhesives - to meet the need to bond elastomers to metals, engineering plastics and other types of elastomers under varying conditions.

Exhaust emission control: AERIFY™ diesel particulate filters help automakers achieve emissions control. These filters offer low back pressure to enhance engine efficiency, smaller size to improve packaging efficiency, and superior durability with outstanding dust and chemical resistance.

In addition to its ongoing investment in R&D and innovation efforts, Dow Automotive Systems continues to invest to better serve the needs of its Asian customers. The company has just announced its new propylene oxide (PO) and elastomer manufacturing plant in Thailand, both of which will be in production in 2011. Dow has also strengthened its local R&D and technical service capabilities by adding technical teams and purchasing world-class equipment. "These are just some of the actions we are taking to optimize our services to better serve our customers in Asia. I am confident that you will see more local automotive manufacturers on our customer list. We will also continue our efforts to combine our local knowledge with our global experience to better serve our customers," added Mr. Han De Shen.
